Free Online SQL Playground (SQLite in Your Browser)
Quick answer
Run real SQL queries online against a live SQLite database — compiled to WebAssembly and executing entirely in your browser. A sample schema with departments, employees and projects is preloaded, so you can practice JOINs, GROUP BY and subqueries instantly, with no signup and no data leaving your device.

Most "SQL online" tools send your queries and schema to a server. This playground ships the actual SQLite engine — the same C database used by millions of applications — compiled to WebAssembly, and runs it inside your tab. You get genuine SQLite behavior, a preloaded sample database to experiment on, and the strongest privacy model possible: the database does not exist anywhere except your browser's memory.

Waiting for the engine…
SQL Playground runs entirely in your browser — nothing you paste or type is uploaded to any server, and no account is needed.
How do I practice SQL online?
- 1
Wait a moment for the SQLite engine to load (one small WebAssembly file from this site), then check the green status badge.
- 2
Explore the schema browser on the left — click a table name to drop a ready-made SELECT into the editor.
- 3
Write or paste your query and press Run (or Ctrl+Enter). Results appear as a table with row counts and execution time.
- 4
Export your work: download the result as CSV, the query as .sql, or the whole database as a .sqlite file — press Reset DB to restore the sample data.
What this SQL playground includes
Real SQLite, not a simulation
The engine is sql.js — official SQLite compiled to WebAssembly — so window functions, CTEs, subqueries and SQLite's exact type affinity all behave exactly like a local SQLite file. What passes here passes in production code that uses SQLite.
A sample database ready on load
Three related tables (departments, employees, projects) with realistic rows are created automatically, so JOIN and GROUP BY practice starts immediately — no setup script required, and Reset DB restores it after destructive experiments.
Schema browser with click-to-query
The sidebar lists every table with its columns and types. Click a table name and a SELECT statement is inserted into the editor — the fastest way to start exploring unfamiliar data.
Multiple statements, multiple result sets
Paste a whole script: every SELECT produces its own labeled result table with timing, and INSERT/UPDATE statements report rows modified. Errors show the engine's exact message.
Everything exports
Copy or download results as CSV, save the query as .sql, or export the current database as a .sqlite file you can open locally. Downloads are generated in your browser.
Private by physics
The database runs in your tab's memory — there is no server connection that could receive your schema or data. Practice with fake customer data, prototypes and internal schemas without a second thought.
CodeLive Studio vs DB Fiddle vs SQL Fiddle vs a local SQLite install
The common ways to run quick SQL experiments, compared on what actually matters for practice and prototyping.
| What matters | CodeLive Studio | DB Fiddle | SQL Fiddle | Local SQLite |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Setup effort | Open a page | Open a page | Open a page | Install + CLI or GUI |
| Account required | Never | Optional (to save) | No | No |
| Engine | SQLite (WASM, in-browser) | MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, more | MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Oracle, more | Whatever you install |
| Queries/data leave the browser | No — engine runs client-side | Yes — executed on their servers | Yes — executed on their servers | No |
| Works offline after load | Yes | No | No | Yes |
| Export database file | Yes — .sqlite download | No | No | It is local already |
| Schema persistence between visits | Resets on reload (privacy trade-off) | With an account | Short-lived URLs | Persists |
Based on publicly available information as of October 2026. Honest trade-offs: DB Fiddle's multi-engine support is the reason to keep it bookmarked for MySQL/PostgreSQL work, and a local database is unbeatable for persistence. This playground's niche is genuine SQLite with zero setup, zero accounts and zero uploads.
What can you learn or test in a browser SQL playground?
The whole core of SQL practice lives comfortably in SQLite: SELECT basics, WHERE filtering, ORDER BY and LIMIT, aggregate functions with GROUP BY and HAVING, JOINs across the sample tables, subqueries, CTEs with WITH, and window functions like ROW_NUMBER and LAG. SQLite's dialect is close enough to standard SQL that these skills transfer directly to PostgreSQL and MySQL for everyday querying.
It is also a serious prototyping tool: paste a production schema, load a few rows, and debug that failing report query without touching real data. Because the engine is real SQLite, subtle behaviors — type affinity, NULL handling in aggregates, string comparison rules — match what your application will actually do.
Where does my data live when I run a query here?
In a database object inside your browser tab's JavaScript memory — nowhere else. The engine file (a WebAssembly binary) is the only thing downloaded, from this site, when the page loads. After that, queries, results and any data you INSERT exist solely on your machine, and everything disappears when you close the tab or press Reset DB.
That is why there is no login and no saved-history feature: persistence would require a server, and a server would defeat the privacy model. If you need to keep work, export the .sqlite file or the .sql script — both are generated locally.

Frequently asked questions
Is this SQL playground free?
Yes — completely free with no account, no query limits and no paid tier. The SQLite engine runs in your browser via WebAssembly, so there are no per-query server costs, which is what makes the unlimited free model possible.
Which SQL dialect does it support?
SQLite. That covers the full standard core — SELECT, JOINs, GROUP BY, subqueries, CTEs and window functions — with SQLite-specific behaviors like dynamic typing. Queries written here port easily to PostgreSQL or MySQL at the everyday level.
Does my query or data get sent to a server?
No. The database engine is WebAssembly executing inside your tab — queries and data never leave your device. There is no server endpoint on this page that could receive them, and no account system that could store them.
Can I create my own tables?
Yes — run any CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements you like. The schema browser updates automatically to show your new tables. Everything resets when you reload the page or press Reset DB, so experiments stay risk-free.
How do I save my work between sessions?
The query text auto-saves to your browser's localStorage. For data, export the .sqlite file (openable in any local SQLite tool) or download results as CSV and queries as .sql — all generated client-side.
Is the sample database realistic enough for practice?
It is deliberately small but fully relational: three tables, foreign keys and a mix of numeric and text columns — enough for JOIN, GROUP BY, subquery and window-function practice. Replace it with your own CREATE/INSERT script any time.
